The Angelina Effect

Cancer awareness is definitely something we all should embrace. One of my muse, Angelina Jolie, has made a very respectable decision to do a double mastectomy and has inspired millions of women around the world. Here's more to the story.

"I am writing about it now because I hope that other women can benefit from my experience. Cancer is still a word that strikes fear into people’s hearts, producing a deep sense of powerlessness. "
Angelina's mother fought against ovarian cancer for almost over a decade and died at the age of 56. She had a hard time explaining to herself and to her children about the disease which took her mother away. Since she inherit the mutation genetic disease, Jolie simply has a 65% chance of breast cancer, but not after the three months long medical procedures.

Angelina Jolie's preventive double mastectomy has caught the world's attention. She does this because she chose to be proactive to minimize the chance of her having breast cancer due to the faulty BRCA1 gene, which decreased from 87% to under 5%.
"I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer."
For Angie, her family always comes first. She doesn't want her children to be uncomfortable and haunted by fear of losing her. They will see small scars, but the rest is still her. Angie admits that she loves her children so much and will do anything to be with them as long as she could.

She is also grateful for a loving partner like Brad Pitt who had been there every minute of her surgery. Her decision has definitely made the family closer and stronger. With the reality of her having 50% chance of ovarian cancer, Angie plans on having another surgery soon. She is making her journey against cancer public to empower women and to increase the awareness. For me, the Angelina Effect is something everyone needs and has been a great blessing for all of us.
"Life comes with many challenges. The ones that should not scare us are the ones we can take on and take control of."
